EINERTSON'S GRAND SLAM PACES DIABLOS BLOWOUT

SIOUX CITY, IA- Mitch Einertson's bases loaded home run blew open a close game in the fifth inning as the Diablos rapped out 18 hits in a 10-1 victory over the Sioux City Explorers.

With nobody out in the fifth and the bases loaded, Einertson cranked a pitch from Explorers starter Richard Salazar (3-6) off the scoreboard above the left-center field fence, turning a 2-0 lead into a 6-0 advantage and giving Diablos hurler Scott Hodsdon (3-1) all he needed to earn his third victory of 2012.

Hodsdon went the distance for El Paso, striking out six and walking three for the Diablos' first complete game of the season. Hodsdon did not allow Sioux City an extra base hit and had just one inning in which he allowed more than one Explorer to collect a hit.

The Diablos offense gave Hodsdon early run support with a run in the top of the third off Salazar. With the bases loaded, Maikol Gonzalez singled, scoring Uriak Marquez to put El Paso out in front. They added one more run before Einertson's grand slam put the game out of reach.

Up 7-0 into the sixth, the Diablos tacked on three additional runs on catcher Scott Clement's bases-clearing double with the bases loaded to push the lead to double digits.

The Explorers' lone run off Hodsdon came in the seventh when Kris Sanchez singled in Mike Bisenius.

The win is the Diablos' fourth in their last five games and pushes their record to 11-28. Game two of the three game series is scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. (MST) start on Saturday at Lewis & Clark Park, but the Diablos have not yet named a starting pitcher.
