LATE HIT FROM ARLIS GIVES DIABLOS VICTORY OVER SOX

EL PASO, TX- Patrick Arlis' RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth inning proved to be the go-ahead hit in the Diablos' 10-9 victory over the division rival Amarillo Sox, giving El Paso its sixth win of the season in front of 1,492 fans at Cohen Stadium.

For a moment, it looked like another game of missed opportunities for El Paso. The Diablos jumped out to a 9-2 sixth inning lead, an advantage they saw evaporate when Amarillo plated seven runs in that frame to tie the game.

But after several shut down innings by a bullpen that had struggled coming into the contest, Arlis plated Jonathan Cisneros with a drive down the right field line that evaded the dive of right fielder Tim Alberts and rolled to the wall, giving the home team a much needed win.

The fact that the game came to Arlis' clutch hit was concerning for the Diablos, who jumped out to a big advantage thanks in part to a five run first inning. Arlis, who reached base all five times he came up in the game, knocked in two of the runs with a two-out single, as El Paso jumped all over Sox starter Derek Christensen.

It was 8-1 after three innings as the Diablos added a trio of runs in the third, two of them on a two-run double by Derrick Pyles, and then 9-2 heading into the sixth before Amarillo began to rally. The Sox knocked Scott Hodsdon from the game and then pounced on reliever Reyes Dorado. Tim Alberts knotted the game with a two-run triple to right center to cap a seven-run frame.

From there, however, El Paso's 'pen settled down. Dorado, newcomer Blake Cull and Kyle Cremers did not allow another run to score, giving the Diablos a chance to take the lead on Arlis' triple off reliever Wes Littleton (2-2).

Cremers (1-1) earned the win with a scoreless inning and Marcel Prado picked up his second save, allowing just one baserunner in a relatively stress-free ninth.

The Diablos will go for the series win on Wednesday night behind right-hander Colin Allen. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (MST).
