EL Paso, TX – The El Paso Diablos were coming off a controversial loss and were looking for a split in the series. The Diablos came out swinging as they scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 14-2 victory Tuesday night at Cohen Stadium.
The Diablos (37-63) came out swinging their bats as they got to Wichita starting pitcher Nick Singleton in the bottom of the first inning where they scored five runs on seven hits to take a 5-0 lead after the first inning of play.
Wichita (55-45) needed a win as they were looking to secure a playoff spot, but the Diablos went on an offensive burst as the Wingnuts never had a chance in this game.
El Paso starting pitcher Reymond Cruz (5-8) was dealing from the mound as he pitched seven innings allowing only two runs, one earned on six hits. He walked four and struck out five in the victory.
Singleton did not fare well as he pitched five innings allowing eight runs all earned on 14 hits. He came into the game with only one loss, but after tonight the Diablos handed him his second loss of the season.
The Wingnuts’ bullpen was not much better as they allowed six runs on seven hits during the last three innings. El Paso was able to hit every pitcher that Wichita sent to the mound in the game.
Every single Diablos starter registered at least one hit as the Diablos scored 14 runs on 21 hits. Eight of the nine starters for the Diablos had a multi-hit game. Right fielder Nelson Teilon third baseman Martin Parra and center fielder Kory Drew all finished the game with three hits.
The Diablos finished the season with the worst record in the league, but were arguably one of the best teams to finish out the season as they were able to nearly reach the 40 win mark.
