Fort Worth, TX – The El Paso Diablos were looking to end their two-game losing streak as they headed to Fort Worth to take on the Cats who had lost their last three games, but Fort Worth scored early and often as they blew by the Diablos 12-3 Tuesday night at LaGrave Field.
The Diablos (34-59) sent starting pitcher Luis Montano to the mound and he had trouble all night trying to find the strike zone. He fell behind batters which ultimately lead to his demise in his start. Montano pitched three and a third allowing six runs all earned on eight hits. He issued five walks and two strikeouts in the losing effort.
Fort Worth (43-50) did not score a run in the first inning, but in the second inning they opened up the game as they sent nine batters to the plate. They pushed four runs across on five hits to make the score 4-0 after two innings of play.
El Paso came back in the top of the third as they cut the deficit in half as they scored two runs in the inning. The first run came off the bat of first baseman Javier Brito who hit a sacrifice fly that scored third baseman Johan Garcia. The next batter Uriak Marquez singled to make the score 4-2 after three and a half innings of play.
The Cats scored the next eight runs in the game as they erupted to a 12-2 lead heading into the top of the ninth inning.
The Diablos did not score again until the top of the ninth when left fielder Brian Joynt hit a solo home run to make the score 12-3. It was his seventh home run of the season. The Diablos only had five hits on the night, but Marquez had three of them as he finished 3-4 in the game.
Tomorrow is game two of a three-game series as the Diablos will look to end their three-game losing streak as they take on the Cats at 7:05 pm at La Grave Field.
