Diablos lose lead in bottom of the ninth; fall to Cats

Fort Worth, TX—The El Paso Diablos led 9-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but the bullpen for the El Paso allowed five runs including the game winning walk-off hit by Kelly Gulledge to give the Cats a thrilling 10-9 comeback victory Thursday night at LaGrave Field.
The Diablos (20-51) went on top after they scored three runs in the first two innings as the third run came across on a two-out RBI double by second baseman Albenis Machado to put El Paso on top 3-0 after two.
Fort Worth (32-38) did not go away thanks in part to the contribution in the game tonight by their third baseman Will Calhoun. Calhoun had a huge night and he tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run RBI single to tie the game at three after five innings.
El Paso went right back on top in the top of the six when right fielder Stephen Douglas singled to left to with two outs to bring in two runs to make the game 5-3 after six innings. The Diablos added two more runs in the next two innings to take a 9-5 lead entering the bottom of the ninth.
After pitching a scoreless eighth inning, reliever Kyle Cremers came back out for the ninth inning and after giving up a lead-off single he was able to retire the next batter. The next two batters reached as Cremers walked one and hit Butch Ballez to load the bases.
Manager Jorge Alvarez replaced Cremers with Ezequiel Infante and he did not fare well as he faced two batters and walked Calhoun and left fielder Marcos Rodriguez. Calhoun finished the night 4-4 with a triple and five RBI.
Alvarez came back out and brought reliever Josh Grady in the game and it was much of the same from Grady. Center fielder Ryan Patterson hit a two-run RBI single to tie the game at nine.
The next batter was Gulledge and after two pitchers he saw from Grady, he hit the next pitch passes the diving third baseman Johan Garcia to bring home the winning run and give the Cats a 10-9 comeback win.
Tomorrow is the game two of a three-game series between these two teams. The Diablos are looking for their first win against the Cats in their last five games. Game time is set for 7:05 pm at LaGrave Park.
