May 25, 2010 Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Pheasants showed off their offensive fire power as they disposed of the Diablos 12-3 at Sioux Falls Stadium on Tuesday night. The Pheasants offense scored in every inning except two as they handed the Diablos their second consecutive loss.
The Diablos took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an Arnoldo Ponce RBI single. The lead was short lived as Sioux Falls scored three in the bottom of the first. The Diablos tied the game by scoring two runs in the third inning, but that was all the offense for the El Paso. Over the final six innings the Diablos would get only three base runners with only one of those being a hit. Sioux Falls on the other hand, kept their offense going all night. Two solo home runs in the third inning put them up for good. They scored one each in the sixth and seventh before a four run inning in the seventh broke the game wide open. They added a third home run in the ninth to account for their final tally of the night.
Leonard Landeros made the start and was working out of trouble all night. Landeros (0-1) allowed six earned runs on nine hits while working into the seventh inning. His offense could not keep up with the Pheansants as they produced only nine base runners all night. Sioux Falls starter Chris Salberg (2-0) kept them off balance and allowed only three runs in seven inning while striking out eight. El Paso managed only six hits led by Jonathan Reynoso who went 2-4 with a triple. Arnoldo Ponce went 1-3 and added two RBI.
The Diablos take on the Pheasants in game two on Wednesday night with first pitch slated for 6:05. David Whigham (0-1) makes the start for El Paso against Ryan Shaver (1-0). The game can be heard on ESPN radio 1380 or on line at www.diablos.com.
